Super Full Moon

Ed Kluska’s Astrology Newsletter

The first four days of this week are active. Typically, there are one to four factors a day covered in these newsletters, but early this week there are a high number of lunar aspects and three * factors to report. Tomorrow Sun enters Pisces and on Tuesday there’s a Super Full Moon and Mercury conjuncts Neptune.

A Larger Brighter Full Moon

According to the Cincinnati Observatory, “As the moon orbits the Earth, it slowly changes its distance from us, varying from about 250,000 miles at its farthest to around 218,000 miles at its closest. When you combine the night when the full moon is also closest to us, astronomers call that a perigee syzygy. The more common and catchy name is “supermoon.”

The moon’s distance changes very slowly. You cannot tell the difference from night to night. In fact, last month during the lunar eclipse, the moon was nearly as close as it will be next week. But if you compare Tuesday’s supermoon to the farthest full moon, the so-called “puny moon” later this year, the difference is dramatic. The supermoon is over 30,000 miles closer, appears 14 percent larger in diameter and 30 percent larger in surface area than the puny moon. It is like comparing the size of a quarter to that of a nickel.

The best time to see any full moon is just as it rises at sunset. In the Cincinnati area, the moon will rise Tuesday over the eastern horizon at 6:34 p.m. At first glance, the moon will look reddish in color. That’s because the moonlight is traveling through more of Earth’s atmosphere to reach your eyes and shifts the color to the red. It is the same reason why a setting sun turns red.

As the night goes on and the moon rises higher in the sky, the moon illusion will fade and it may seem smaller than it did when it first rose. In actuality, the moon will continue to get slightly closer to us. If you want to view the super-est supermoon, when it is about 218,000 miles away, look at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 high in the southern sky. That’s about as close as you will ever be to the moon.”

Sun Sign Updates

Venus, the planet of love, affection, and money, at 17 to 20 degrees Capricorn is benefiting the house in your horoscope ruled by Capricorn and anyone with planets and points at 17 to 20 degrees of Capricorn.

Mars, the planet of effort and desire, at 03 and 04 degrees Taurus is likely bringing stress and conflicts for anyone born around the twenty-fifth of January, July, August, September, October, and November and anyone with planets or points at 04 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.

Jupiter, the planet of hope, expansion, and good fortune, at 21 degrees Sagittarius, brings opportunities for anyone born around the twelfth of any month, especially December, and for any planets and points in your horoscope around 21 degrees.

Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, and Capricorn should know that Saturn at 17 degrees Capricorn is likely creating challenges, tests, delays, losses, and realities for anyone born around the eighth of January, April, June, July, August, and October and for anyone with points or planets around 17 degrees of Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, and Capricorn.

Monday, February 18

09:17 AM + (Moon in Leo 150 Mercury in Pisces) favors reflection, writing, and communication because this lunar aspect creates a more active exchange between the conscious and unconscious minds.

11:02 AM - (Moon in Leo 150 Neptune in Pisces) increases the possibilities for haziness and emotional confusion as well as highly refined artistic and spiritual feelings and aspirations. This period is better for daydreaming, imagination, creativity, prayer, and meditation than for logical discussions and clear-cut decisions.

01:01 PM - (Moon in Leo 150 Saturn in Capricorn) provides an atmosphere for orderly, steady, conscientious, pragmatic, and realistic plans and activities, but can also create issues, worries, and differences, especially involving females and families.

01:34 PM + (Moon in Leo 150 Venus in Capricorn) fosters cooperation, cheerfulness, affections, pleasantries, gracefulness, emotional sharing, and artistic expression, especially involving females.

06:03 PM * (Sun enters Pisces) which brings support to Pisces and the other water signs (Cancer and Scorpio) over the coming month as well as highlighting the house in your horoscope ruled by Pisces.

06:59 PM + (Moon in Leo 120 Jupiter in Sagittarius) favors interpersonal situations and working with the public because this lunar aspect increases the possibilities for kindness, benevolence, positive attitudes, shared feelings, and uplifting emotional support.

09:29 PM - (Moon in Leo 150 Pluto in Capricorn) can create complicated interpersonal situations, especially involving females and family matters. There’s more likely to be subtle yet emotionally charged situations involving manipulation, hidden motives, and power struggles are more likely although these factors may not be fully realized until later.

Tuesday, February 19

01:36 AM + - * (Mercury in Pisces 00 Neptune in Pisces) in effect this past week, this aspect occurs once a year and brings the potential for creativity, imagination, and artistic inspiration. It’s the world of dreams, fantasy, fiction, art, music, movies, drama, and the psychic. However, with this aspect active, you need to be careful with your thinking and assumptions. The mind can play tricks on you because the imagination associated with Neptune can make things look too good to be true. Mercury is our thinking and Neptune is related to confusion, deception, and a lack of clarity.

08:50 AM + (Moon in Leo 120 Uranus in Aries) brings opportunities for instincts, intuition, and forward-looking aspirations especially regarding anything that is new, different, and exciting because it involves the fire signs, Aries and Leo.

08:50 AM Moon in Leo Void until 09:46 AM when it enters the next sign, Virgo.

10:53 AM - * (Moon in Virgo 180 Sun in Pisces) this is the Super Full Moon explained at the top of this newsletter. It's more relevant for those born early in the mutable signs (Gemini Virgo Sagittarius Pisces) and those with planets and points early in these signs.

03:30 PM + (Moon in Virgo 120 Mars in Taurus) creates a time to trust your instincts and to be bolder and more direct especially with how you feel.

Wednesday, February 20

10:22 AM - (Moon in Virgo 180 Neptune in Pisces) increases the possibilities for haziness and emotional confusion as well as highly refined artistic and spiritual feelings and aspirations. This period is better for daydreaming, imagination, creativity, prayer, and meditation than for logical discussions and clear-cut decisions.

12:32 PM + (Moon in Virgo 120 Saturn in Capricorn) provides an atmosphere for orderly, steady, conscientious, pragmatic, and realistic plans and activities, especially involving business and professional matters because it involves the earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn.

02:10 PM + (Moon in Virgo 180 Mercury in Pisces) favors reflection, writing, and communication because this lunar aspect creates a more active exchange between the conscious and unconscious minds.

04:44 PM + (Moon in Virgo 120 Venus in Capricorn) fosters cooperation, cheerfulness, affections, pleasantries, gracefulness, emotional sharing, and artistic expression, especially involving females.

06:40 PM + (Moon in Virgo 90 Jupiter in Sagittarius) favors interpersonal situations and working with the public because this lunar aspect increases the possibilities for kindness, benevolence, positive attitudes, shared feelings, and uplifting emotional support.

08:51 PM + (Moon in Virgo 120 Pluto in Capricorn) symbolizes females who are influential, productive, and psychic. This aspect also increases the possibilities for practicality and solid business plans as well as deeper feelings and psychic impressions.

Thursday, February 21

08:26 AM - (Moon in Virgo 150 Uranus in Aries) enhances willfulness and instincts but also brings nervousness, anxiety, upsets, willfulness, restlessness, excitability, volatility, and emotionally charged situations, especially involving females.

08:26 AM Moon in Virgo Void until 09:17 AM when it enters the next sign, Libra.

05:26 PM - (Moon in Libra 150 Mars in Taurus) intensifies interpersonal situations and is likely to bring impatience, impulsiveness, strong desires, and even anger and forceful actions, especially involving females. If you are trying to resolve an issue with someone, for example, be aware that volatile emotions are more likely than rational thinking.

Guidelines for Using This Information

I keep this information as clear and straightforward as possible, but even for students of astrology, it can be difficult to sort everything out. There are many factors to consider, and sometimes the overlapping influences are contradictory. You might say this is just like life.

For starts, keep in mind that these newsletters are not intended to tell you what is going to happen in your life at the times given. Instead, the aspect descriptions provide some of the possible influences you can expect around the times given so you can more wisely plan for and participate in your life. Often, it is obvious which time frames are better than others for timing or starting a party, trip, decision, business, or any other event, for example.

The star (*) factors are more significance for right timing because they are in effect for a more extended time (often up to a week). Any business, project, decision, relationship, wedding, and childbirth, for example, started around the dates given will have the qualities and characteristics of the descriptions listed.

The lunar (Moon) aspects listed are less significant because they are in effect for only hours (versus days) before and until the times (Eastern Time) given, but they are still quite relevant for right timing.

The plus (+) factors for both the * factors and lunar factors are favorable. The minus (-) factors are more likely to bring challenges or difficulties. Sometimes there is a + and - factor which means the aspect can exhibit both positive and negative influences.

The most critical factor with right timing is what’s occurring in your horoscope. When negative aspects dominate your horoscope, the chances of success with right timing diminish no matter how favorable the aspects are in the sky. These newsletters cannot cover what is occurring in your horoscope, but if you apply the information in these newsletters with common sense, you have an advantage with timing your decisions and activities.

The basic premise with right timing is that it helps to have the "stars" on your side. Starting a marriage, trip, surgery, business, real estate deal, or a major purchase, for example, at an inopportune time reduces the chances of success no matter how good your intentions and how hard you try. The better the timing, the higher your chances of success. Even an hour can make a significant difference in important decisions and events.

During Void periods there tends to be a lull in the energy levels, and what you start, or implement is less likely to turn out the way you planned or expected. So, it’s usually better to do things with less significance or no purpose in mind versus trying to start something new and vital. If you have a new idea, meet someone new, or start a business, for example, those activities are less likely to amount to much.

The Moon enters each sign of the zodiac about every 28 days and remains in that sign for about two and a half days. When the Moon’s in your sun sign, matters are likely to come more together for you on a short-term basis unless there are significant aspects currently challenging your horoscope.

Note that the traits and qualities I assign to each sign in these newsletters describe more the functions and meanings of the signs versus trying to describe your personality, although at times the descriptions may be entirely accurate. Furthermore, to understand a person’s personality and character from an astrological perspective, there are a multitude of factors in a horoscope to consider besides one's sun sign.
