The Importance of Water Coolers

Ed Kluska’s Astrology & Mindful Living Newsletter:

The Importance of Water Coolers Employee engagement is when employees are committed to their company’s goals and values, and are motivated to contribute to the company’s success while at the same time enhancing their own sense of well-being. Unfortunately, studies show that most employees are dissatisfied with their work and are not fully engage when they do work. There has to be better ways of doing business. A Boston–based analytics firm, Sociometric Solutions, supplied twenty companies with employee ID badges fitted with a microphone to see how employees interact. They did not listen to the employees’ conversations, but did analyze how employee interactions affected their performance. At Bank of America call centers, for example, the firm found that workers in tightly knit groups who took breaks together were far more productive and less likely to quit. The bank then introduced a shared 15–minute coffee break to improve social interaction, and saw productivity increase more than 10% while turnover plummeted 70%. Astrologically, Venus is the planet most directly related to relationships and anything associated with relationships such as friendship, social interactions, equality, fairness and cooperation. Every employee wants to be accepted and recognized as a part of the team and to be treated fairly in a comfortable and wholesome environment. These are the positive qualities associated with the benefic planet Venus. So for employers, it makes sense to cultivate Venus-like work environments where there is more emphasis on harmony, comfort, friendship, congeniality, understanding, cooperation, fairness and appreciation. Employees do not want a toxic work environment that is unlike Venus––stressful, discordant, unfair and filled with criticisms, lack of appreciation and cooperation, back stabbing, and inordinate rules and controls. There are many other ways companies can create more wholesome and productive work environments, but focusing on the benefits of Venus is a good place to start.
